The Art and Science of Helping Adults learn

Continuing education steht als Name für Weiterbildung; Recurrent Education (OECD) und Further Education sind weitere gebräuchliche Bezeichnungen. Lifelong Education wird bei uns als Lebensbegleitendes Lernen bzw. Lebenslanges Lernen ( nicht "Lebenslängliches Lernen"!) übersetzt.
Manchmal wird in angloamerikanischen Ländern noch zwischen formal adult education (=formalisiert), nonformal adult education (=offen) und informal adult education (=ungesteuertes Lernen ausserhalb des öffentlichen Bildungssystems) unterschieden.

Adult Learning Information and Documentation Network
UNESCO is developing a Worldwide Network of Networks of Adult Education Documentation and Information Services - today called ALADIN.
The explosion of demand for new skills and adult learning is generating an increasing demand for adult education documentation and information. Access to adult education documentation and information services, however, remains a dream for many people, as there is very uneven access for researchers, policy-makers, community groups, businesses, adult learners, educators and everyone engaged in lifelong learning around the world.

The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE)
represents the world-wide adult education movement of non-governmental organizations working at the grassroots, national and regional levels.

European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA)
The aims of the EAEA are: to promote the development of adult education, to encourage cooperation in adult education at a European level, to lobby international bodies so that they adopt plans and policies which respond to the needs of the adult population in Europe, to make it easier for non-governmental organisations to work together and play an active role in the new international scene.

European Society for Research on the Education of Adults (ESREA)
ESREA organizes its activities on the basis of European research networks. These networks organise annual seminars.

European Service Network for Adults Learning (ESNAL)
The initiative for the ESNAL - project was taken by the European Association for the Education of Adults. ESNAL may become a virtual research-institute, where scientists, practical working Adult Education instructors and institutes of Adult Education from all of Europe can exchange their experiences. Different ideas from different countries should flow together on this Network.

Fédération Européenne pour l'Education Catholique des Adultes (FEECA)
Die FEECA ist die europäische Vereinigung und Plattform nationaler und sprachregionaler Dachverbände katholischer Erwachsenenbildung.

National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) in England and Wales
NIACE's formal aim is to "promote the study and general advancement of adult continuing education".
Less formally we interpret this to mean advancing the interests of adult learners and potential learners.
